It's a versatile, natural mineral used to create many types of inlay. It can be used as is, or dyed to emulate a variety of luxurious gem stones such as sapphire blue, ruby red, jade green and more. You can also mix it into our other inlay materials to add a shimmering translucent chatoyance effect. These grains add iridescent, colorful shimmer to any inlay design; it comes from the inner layer of the shell of some oysters and abalones. Review: Good luster - This mother of pearl is great. Has that nice sheen to it that you're likely looking for. I will say if you are doing anything like what I'm doing (smaller inlays) the coarse is way bigger than you need. I've been using Starbond thin CA glue to set the stuff. You can just break the coarse into finer pieces to make it more fine, but it's not as nice then as the fine. Even the fine i had to break a bit on the tiniest parts of the inlay. Review: nice - Used for inlay on ukulele headstock, it looks great. What is the combination offered?** A: 1 oz of fine and 1 oz of flake (combo) as opposed to buying them individually. We also give a discount for the combo. Will be updating Amazon soon with this. **Q: Can this work as an inlay in metal?** A: I've never inlaid in metal, but I don't see any reason it would not work. Epoxy is the bonding material, so unless your metal will be exposed to excessive heat, I would think it would be fine. **Q: Dyeing this product was mentioned in the description. What is used to do this?** A: We like TransTint, (it is very concentrated and works great) but I have tested every type of stain and dye in our finishing cabinet (21 types) and frankly they all worked from Minwax oil stain to nail polish. The key is to use just a touch (for optimal translucency) It is always best to do a small test first. Hope this helps. Enjoy! **Q: Can the wood be stained after the product has been inlayed?** A: Absolutely, I mix the finely ground material with clear epoxy to stand slightly Higher than needed, when dried sand smooth to the surface and stain. Its easy too use however the final product does not look like real mop after its inlayed but its still nice, I tried this mixed with epoxy & C.A.
