Powermatic Quality
I bought these along with a PM701 mortiser. You get what you pay for, and these are no exception. The chisel is nicely ground and the edges which will be against the walls of the mortise are smooth and straight. The chisel edges are sharp with minimal burrs (one side of the 5/16" chisel had the slightest burr, but it only took one swipe on the diamond hone to eliminate). The boring bit is also sharp, and well fitted to the chisel. There is no interference or binding that I can detect. All in all, these are another quality product from Powermatic. Even if you are going with a less expensive mortiser, consider this set if you need multiple sizes...your mortise is only going to be as good as the cutter you use!

Great Mortise Sets !
Extremely sharp out if the box. Drill and chisel match up well with installation as directed. I did hundreds of plunge mortises in hard maple without difficulty using the 1/2 set. I would not recommend doing large projects using small hand mortisers in hardwoods to any real depth with the 1/2" set. Too much to remove with a hand lever. That said, with a good mortiser, these are great chisel/bit sets. Don't waste your money on cheaper sets.

Works great
These work great in my Powermatic mortiser. I wish they were longer as I'm trying to cut a mortise for a knife handle tang to go in and 2" is just not deep enough for the 1/4". I don't know of anyone who makes a longer one though. You do have to set this up properly so there is a clearance between the chisel and the bit.

Buy once/Cry Once. Worth the extra coin
My shopfox mortiser came with a 1/2" chisel and auger bit that would smoke like crazy in the oak and ash that I was cutting into. It would cut the mortises I needed, but was messy and kept overheating. No matter how sharp it was, or how slow I would drill, or what distance I'd set the auger at, it always smoked and got hot in any hardwood. It would smoke in pine too but not as bad.I bought this set because I knew that iSh wasn't right and OH MAN LEMME TELL YOU WHAT! :) Sharp as could be out of the package and perfectly polished. Soooo much smoother operating and mortises from these bits. I've only used the 1/2" and the 3/8" so far but do not regret the extra $$ these cost over the "off-brand" offerings out there.

Do Yourself a Favor and Buy These
These mortise bits are far and away better made than the other bits available. You will have spent a deal of money on a mortifying machine, don’t be “Penny wise and Pound Foolish” running cheap bits.Pros:Leave a perfectly square mortice with no auger runout to mess up the edges. They come sharp.Well made. No auger runout that cheaper bits have.Cons:Expensive but in my opinion worth it.

High-quality chisels, I had no issues making mortises on wenge!
These are very high-quality mortise chisels. I used them with my Powermatic 719T mortiser to make mortises in Wenge. Historically, I had been doing those with a router and a chisel. Wenge is a pretty hard wood (and brittle). I was a bit skeptical about how well they would perform because of my past experience using a router and chisel. However, with these chisels, it made the mortises very easily. No smoke or anything. I was able to do mortises on wenge without effort.
