Just hanging on the wall it takes about a week before the smell goes away fully. You can speed up this process by putting them in a sealed container with baking soda - it will pull out the smell within maybe 48 hours.

**Q: Is there Formaldehyde in this**
A: I did not recognize the formaldehyde smell... However, I recognized the naphthalene smell; it's probably how the vendor keeps the framed insects stored. The smell will go away in a few days though.

**Q: Is there any space inside the frame?. I want to put a small key inside the frame above the butterfly. Could I do this?.**
A: sealed very well do not know if could open to do    that

**Q: Is the item durable?**
A: Yes.  However, as I described in my review that the framing is not the best.  The butterfly sits in a foam like material and the glass is pressed against the butterfly, which I don't like.  I had to remount it to a shadow-box frame, which really brings out the beauty of the butterfly.  You may also want to check out etsy.com for other examples of butterfly taxidermy. By the way, the butterfly itself is beautiful.
