Ethanol Fireplace - Ventless Freestanding See-Through - Ignis Tectum S

I have never written a product review before but just had to be the first on this one, realizing how much I value other product reviews in making decisions. I am a 70-yar-old widow and recently renovated a small cottage-like house in the cold Northeast. Due to my budget and the size of the rooms, a fireplace or wood/pellet stove was out of the question. But I really wanted a fireplace ambiance...so I began looking into ethanol fireplaces and settled on this one: Ignis Tectum S...mainly because of it's size (very limited as to where I could put it) and ability to burn 4-5 hours instead of 2 like other models similarly sizedFirst, it arrived beautifully packaged and protected. That to me was a good omen. The company obviously values its products and takes pride in them. Second, it was so simple to put together...put the burner in the slot, lay the sliding stainless steel plate over, slip the glass panels into grooves...this took about a minute, I stood back and looked at it and it is exactly as pictured and it fit my space perfectly.I was a little worried about the lighting part...as it turned out for no reason. I had bought a funnel, but did not wind up using it. It was simple to just pour the fuel in (I use the Ignis fuel but any is bio-ethanol fuel should be fine). Lighting was simple and instantly I had fire. Learning how to adjust the flame was easy with the tool they provided but it took me a couple of tries to determine what I liked best and what would be fuel-efficient. The unit does give off heat...it is not below zero yet, but I know that it easily takes the nighttime chill right out of the room (I have radiant floor heat set at 68 degrees). This is a really old house, so there are drafty windows and such.I want to mention that it takes a few minutes to get the flames up but that doesn't bother me and I think that is typical of this kind of fireplace. I did not notice any odors at all. The fire burns about 4-5 hours for me. Overall, a great purchase that allows me to enjoy the warmth and comfort of a fire without any hassle. I am looking forward to moving the unit to the patio in the summer on chilly nights...it's not heavy for me and easy to lift. I recommend this product to anyone looking for an economical "fireplace" solution!

Your browser does not support HTML5 video.  Radiates warmth nicely while keeping the flame more enclosed than open top models, which makes me feel safer. Half of a liter bottle of fuel burned for 1 1/2 hours at full flame for me, the unit says it can hold 1.5 liters, but I haven’t filled it to that point to test it. Be sure to open a new bottle of fuel outside, the pressure release can cause a little spray puff, and snuff out the flame when it starts to gutter at the end to avoid fuel odors. The size of this fireplace is perfect for me to move between my living room and bedroom and will definitely help take the chill off if the power goes out. I’m pretty sure you could also warm up a can of food or a drink if you sit them on the top panel because the metal frame heats up hotter than you can touch at full flame. The bottom of the fireplace is hollow and the burner sits down into that hollow so the bottom of the burner with the hot fuel does not come into contact with your floor.

The top plate is warped so the door does not open or close smoothly. The welds hold the top plate to the burn chamber are very poorly done. The fuel is supposed to burn cleanly but I get black soot on the insides of the glass panels. And it's not odorless. I bought the fuel from the same company as the fireplace so you would think they would be compatible. Even though the bottom never gets hot, there are no feet on the bottom, just the screws that hold it together to scratch up whatever surface you sit it on.

We love our new Tectum S fireplace! When we sold our house and moved to a condo, we really missed having a fireplace for our snowy, winter days. We received our new fireplace yesterday and set it up in a matter of minutes, so that we could light it this morning as the snow falls outside. We are pleasantly surprised by how like a traditional fireplace fire the flames are and by how much ambient heat the Tectum S provides. Our condo feels warm and cozy now! Thank you, Ignis Products!

Love this. Exactly as described. Love the idea that it is not permanent and I can move it wherever.Does not get too hot which I was worried about, but I also only use it a couple hours in an evening.Everyone thinks its great!

Great ambience. Decent heat as well. Goes through fuel fast (3 hour burn when full and full flame.

Just got our Ignis ethanol fireplace. It's got a spare, streamlined look. And the flame is perfect -- just enough to let you know it's there and give a hearth feeling to the room. Also, it's pretty much exactly what you see on the website -- lives up to what you hope it's going to be. Love it.
