Before everything, he installed the canister for this Big Blue filter. Our Phoenix suburb city water isn't bad, but we do have high content of dissolved solids and minerals because a blend of our water comes all the way from the Colorado river and everything it picks up along the way. I have to say that using this as a pre-filter has help eliminate any problems with the water softener mechanism and resin. When I do the ritual slight drain of the electric hot water tank, there is no sediment and the tank hasn't leaked so far after 16 years. The RO system filters and membrane have long life. As the number of people under roof have declined as empty nesters, I now change the filter about every 18 months. Simple to change, although my technique involves using two of the custom wrenches -- one pull and one to push to get the spinning started. I also keep the threads and seal properly lubricated.
