Review: Nice project lock! - Awesome little actuators. I’ve been looking for a strong, yet small device to release a door when it receives a trigger from a wireless controller... these locks work PERFECT! Surprisingly powerful, strong build (everything is metal) and the latch can be used from the side as well... see pics. I took it apart and it’s a very simple system, but seems like it will last a long time. Lots a wasted space inside the housing which I’m going to use to hide some electronics hopefully. Using a small 12v Milwaukee M12 battery, the latch releases even with some resistance on it, exactly what I needed. I especially like how it pushes the latch out when it releases... like a spring’d pop.

Awesome little actuators. I’ve been looking for a strong, yet small device to release a door when it receives a trigger from a wireless controller... these locks work PERFECT! I bought this to replace a similarly priced lock solenoid because that other latch could be easily shaken open. Not this one. The outer body is metal, the latch holds fast and doesn’t budge when shaken, and it springs open with pretty substantial force when unlocked, enough to pop open a door. It also requires a bit of force to close due to the mechanism, which is a good thing. The design stores the potential energy from the latch closing and uses the relatively weak force of the solenoid to unleash it. Another reviewer uploaded a photograph of the mechanism which you can review.
