Texture Explained
This is my first time trying these. I was hoping they'd be a little softer than they are. The other reviews were mixed and made it difficult for me to determine the texture. So I will do my best to explain my personal opinion.THIS IS WHAT THEY ARE NOT LIKE:You cannot cut these with a knife. You cannot bite into these and you cannot chew them. They are NOT like after dinner pastel mints and they are NOT like soft peppermints. Both those kinds of peppermints begin crumbling in your mouth right away and you can eat them very quickly. They are also NOT like a taffy, so you cannot bend them or chew them.THIS IS WHAT THEY ARE LIKE:With these sticks, you can break them into sections with your fingers, so they snap very much like regular candy canes, using the same amount of force. They do NOT break apart into tiny fragment slivers the way regular candy canes do, so they break cleanly without fragments flying everywhere. The TEXTURE of the sticks is not like a regular candy cane, so instead of a smooth, shiny, slippery texture, they have a granular, rough texture (like super fine sand paper) that makes them more sugary tasting, so they melt a LITTLE faster in your mouth. But even after sucking on them for awhile, as they melt and become smaller, they do NOT become softer or chewable. The best way I can describe these sticks is to compare them to sugar cubes, like the kind you put in a hot beverage. Picture a sugar cube in a stick form. The only difference is that these sticks do not absorb your saliva after being in your mouth for awhile, so they remain in one piece until they are completely dissolved. Sugar cubes have more of a tendency to fall apart and crumble as you suck on them.I normally buy regular run of the mill, mini candy canes for my own consumption and I let them sit for over a year or more. The aging process makes them softer, bendable and chewy like a tender taffy and that's how I like to eat peppermint candy. These sticks are a little too hard for my personal taste, so I plan to let them sit around with my other regular candy canes, hoping they will also become chewy (softer) and more to my liking. As a side note, these were delivered in an envelope without any padding, so the box of sticks was beat up and some of the sticks were broken. A small cardboard box with padding, instead of a non-padded envelope, might have been a better idea.

Exactly whatvi was looking for!
I was looking for old fashioned type - thicker, softer peppermint sticks. These were exactly what I was looking for and came in a timely manner.

Not like they used to be
I had gotten some of these years ago in a tin at Walmart. Ordered these cause they was supposed to be the same, they are not. They are hard, not soft as they used to be. They ones I had were out of date 3 years and softer than the ones I ordered.
