It's heavier material (more what I originally expected) but it does not fit the same. It's a more fitted cut than the "purple" dress. Except for the buttons & pockets, it's like the black one is not even the same dress as the original.10/19/22: This dress was soft, comfy, & fit well. It's thinner than I expected, but that's because I didn't look carefully enough to see it's not sweater material. I ordered Purple & when it came, it's a lot more pink than the picture would have you believe. It fits quite well, is very comfortable and looks nice. However I’d ordered this one because on screen the image looks to be a quite vibrant green, my favorite and sometimes challenging to find. When it arrived, it was much closer to a mint green, far more pale than I’d expected. That hardly ever happens! The fabric is soft, the buttons don't pull or bunch the fabric in a weird way despite being solid large buttons on light stretchy fabric. The pockets are convenient and don't bulge like some do, especially with fabric like this. It's lightweight, which is perfect for our mild winters. I wouldn't recommend it for colder climates unless you wear a fleece-lined undershirt with it.
