I had been concerned that the over all inches exceeded the airline carryon limit but, my husband and I took two of them all over the US and out of Rome and they considered them carryon size. We didn't want to carry ours so, we pre-checked them, paying ahead. In Rome they explained that they didn't charge for those "little" ones and that maybe the airline would refund the fees but, they don't.
