There isn't an actual plot or story. The drop of water runs in a stream, is drunk by a cow, comes out in her milk. It also is evaporated and returns as rain and later as snow. All the different ways that water is part of our world. My boy is 4 but this book was interesting at 3 and will continue to be of interest for more years to come. I'm not sure I'd use this in my first grade classroom. At least not to teach from. I love the extra details in the illustrations - this is the part that definitely makes me think it's perfect for grades 2 and up. I don't think the front cover matches the inside at all. It's too elementary, which is why I purchased it. The inside illustrations are much more detailed and specific to each location - which is fantastic.
