If so what is the source (or type)?** A: This model is straight electric. When the power goes out - it does not work. No one makes a true battery back-up. They are ALL battery driven systems. When the batteries fail - they do not work. If you are looking for a quality system - go with a worm drive. We have two (only one listed on Amazon). The model that folds up to 11" is listed. We have another model that folds to 13.5 inches which is a bit less expensive. I prefer the worm drive because it NEVER needs to be greased. ALL other systems require greasing every 90-120 days. The grease ends up all over the carpets and walls. Lifetime warranty on motor and circuit board with the worm drives as well. **Q: Is there any weight limit on this lift?** A: 350 lb capacity. We have others rated for 500 and 600 lbs. **Q: My stairs have a landing halfway up. Is that a problem or more expensive?** A: You would need to chair lifts in this case. **Q: How about installation. Do you install the lift or would I have to find an installer?** A: Installation usually runs around $500 for wood steps, $600 for concrete or steel. ## Customer Reviews ### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Lifetime warranty covers everything *by J***B on September 28, 2019* This is a do it yourself weekend project for two people capable of lifting heavy components, accurate measuring rail brackets and have basic mechanical skills.I have Parkinson's Disease causing my assistant to do mos of the work so two otherwise healthy men could likely complete the installation.Sense we completed it several weeks ago I ride the rail every day ### ⭐⭐⭐⭐ My Chair Lift is Cloud 9 *by A***R on July 25, 2021* Dislike the way it buzzes like a light ballast when idle; probably the transformer. Installed it myself in 16 hours over two days; I'm 74 in fair shape. Could've gained another 2" of stair width by removing the banister, but I needed the banister for myself (something to think about). Omitted the top bracket because the lift center of gravity (CG) is below the landing nose when the lift is at the top. Installed the bottom bracket on the first step, because I didn't want to make holes in my oak floor; lift CG is just slightly below the step nose at the bottom. Should've used a 2x4 instead of 1x4 to keep the rail off the floor when initially installing, because it dropped too far later. Used a hand winch to pull the track uphill after assembly. Misunderstood some of the instructions; it cost me time (read twice, install once). The lower "Call Switch cable" plugs into the electrics box at the top of the track using the cable extension, and the cable should be pushed into the track channel before tightening the thick brackets that retain the cable. Next project: wire molding to hide and protect wires. ### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Stair Lift Installation *by A***R on January 14, 2019* This took me about 8 hours to install. Suggest two people carry the motor/seat assembly up the stairs per install instructions.
