The board has good magnetic pieces and is good to play in the drive as well. The board is sturdy enough and can hold all the pieces when not using, so no worry on loosing the pieces. The chess board is having the fine aluminum on top of the wood. So far its very durable and will see how long it will survive with the kids. Definitely recommends it. First impressions, checker/backgammon pieces are somewhat thin and cheap, but the magnets hold the pieces to the board. The chess pieces are great. I assume that they are molded, but there are no casting marks. They also feel solid not hollow. The board is okay. Time will tell if the hinges and snaps will hold up to multiple uses. The Directions are the worst.
