The audio amp is a "class AB" push-pull type, which only draws current when needed on volume peaks, explaining why the batteries last so long. By comparison, I measured a DSP modern am-fm Phillips-designed pocket model. It works well but draws about 30 milliamperes at similar volume. Also, the internal computer sometimes struggles to accurately demodulate weak signals, which is not applicable to the analog Sony P-26 (or earlier versions). Many DSP's come with digital dials and some button functions but the extra features tend to be a nuisance, IMO- unless you really want them. Sony has dominated the consumer radio market for decades with their well-designed circuits. Issues such as scratchy volume controls are cleaned up with a little contact cleaner. **Q: Does this new model p27 have analog tuning capacitor like the previous model p26? or, does the new p27 have dsp tuner? what are the other differences?** A: It has a DSP tuner. **Q: Does this radio have a cord to charge it ?** A: No, it has batteries. My radio stopped working after a few weeks. It is surprisingly small and portable.The reception and sound quality are good, considering the size of the speaker and antennas.
