Escape to the Past, with Monsters
Mathews’ is fantastic, all of his work is pure adrenaline soaked fun. Readers looking for a break from life’s lack of creativity and adventure will be filled by spending time with the Nova Roma series…I just started book 2 Venice and it’s already great as well!

A great read
Enjoyed the character story and growth. Curious where the story will lead. Also check out Jake’s Magical Market by the same author

Slow start
Okay I started the book I got about 10% and I kept putting it down so I went and checked the reviews to see if it was worth continuing most of them said it started out slow boring I hate to say it you could cut the first 20% of the book out and just come up with a few page intro beginning after that it started getting more interesting and I started getting involved in the story. Now the main character is kind of overpowered for this starting area but as he gets out of the starting area you could see that he's not that overpowered compared to other people or things. The starting area he was dropped in was just crippled and messed up because of some decisions of some people

Highly entertaining and creative writing. I'm looking forward to reading the rest of the series. Thanks for providing such a great story! It felt like the computer games I never have time to play anymore!!

Epic entry in the LitRPG genre
If you're a fan of ancient history / historical fiction, the coming AI apocalypse, nanobots, LitRPG, dark elves, empire building, MC bringing tech/guns into a fantasy world, and/or dream of the triumphant return of Alexander the Great, then this will hit the spot.

Great book, that I had trouble putting down.
I recommend this book to anyone who loves the idea of building/rebuilding from scratch. The author does a good job of making sure there are always challenges for the characters. I found myself excited to get back to reading, even wanting to read outside my normal reading time when I was doing other things.I only got started in Progression and LitRPG a year or so ago. Reading a few of the more acclaimed series on other readers recommendations. I started with this author by reading "Jake's Magical Market", which I recommend as well. There was something that just didn't spark with me, on the description and cover art for this novel, but since I enjoyed JMM so much, I gave it a shot. I'm really glad I did. I just didn't have the right mental picture of what the series was about. It's about an AI that creates a human body and travels to an alternate universe where magic is real. They have to learn to be human along with starting to level in the new system. It scratches an itch for me. Amongst other things, I have a real interest in stories where characters have to build from scratch or repair a broken system/kingdom/etc. This book has that in spades. One thing about JMM that I wished would have been a little different is that he didn't really experience any issues till about 60% of the way through the book. Yes things happened, but it was more of a false danger. There weren't any real failures or repercussions till then. That still happens a little in this book, but it's better. The MC does experience some failures and setbacks regularly, though things still tend to work out fairly well for them.I was also a little worried when they seemed to be getting OP too fast. They quickly bring in elements that have you thinking, "Man, this is too much, they're gonna just rampage through everyone and have no real challenges". That's not the case, though. The author does a good job of giving the MC growth and skills, but every time you think they're now top dog in the world, they find out that isn't the case.So I encourage anyone to check this book out.

Great!
Feel good book, not a lot of tragedy or failure, a lot of wholesome! The mc is almost instantly overpowered, but that is by design and I feel it allows the book to progress very quickly and have a lot of content.

One hell of a read!
Okay so first off I want to say that I am by no means affiliated with the Author. I also rarely give a review. But as this is a new author who has created probably one of the best reads for me this year and I would list it in one of my Top series overall. Know this I read around 150 books on average a year. Some years are higher while others can be lower. I love reading and will often reread books or listen to audible versions of the same books. On to the book:Honestly a well thought out book series and I read what I assume to be his first book as the merchant book series which showed the flaws of all first books from a new aspiring author. I feel J.R Mathews has learned what he did wrong within his first book and improved on this new series. It is a long read for many but for what you get it has many arch's an development points that build up the characters slowly. For me who reads a lot of the Lit-rpg Genre it is a breath of fresh air. I would say that there is no love triangle which thank god I would loose my mind over. The character development is intense and adds to the whole world building experience.Bonus points:Honestly it reminds me a bit of the 'good guys series', a pinch of 'the last physicist', and the depth of the world around you from books like kings dark tidings!Ps. Author I hope you keep up your work, I am only disappointed that your patron teirs only include one since I would easily pay 15-20$ a month for a sneak peak at the next book for which I already pre-ordered

a great story
I was going into this completely blind. No idea what power system this book has pr what kind of path our lil ai will take. But i was truly TRULY fascinated by this apocalypse like story. I wont say anything that the summary doesnt say but this book was great. My only complaint would be the writing. Its not bad by any means but 1st person povs usually lead to a lot of I I I I I I. Instead of rewriting these sentences to not include the word i. Its nothing but nitpicking but i have to atleast mention it to encourage future authors to avoid this mistake!
