JetStream 16-Port 10GE SFP+ L2+ Managed Switch

Review: This switch is a nightmare - I couldn't form a trunk link between my Cisco switch and this piece of garbage. I started a live chat with TP-Link support and after thinking about it (I was next in the queue for over an hour) I decided, if it's this difficult to get a trunk link up, why bother with it? I returned it and bought a used Brocade ICX 6610. A trunk link is basic switch functionality. The only options were to set the switchport to general mode and tag the VLANs, untag a VLAN, and set the PVID. Nothing worked. Access port? Sure, if I set the port on the Cisco side to access a specific VLAN it worked, but if I need to pass multiple VLANS? Nope. This switch may as well be a dumb switch. The documentation on it sucks as well. The price is good for a brand new switch but I cannot recommend this switch to anyone, for any reason. There are many better choices. I'm very sorry I bought this switch and wasted my time with it just to return it and all the SFPs I bought for it.
Review: Switch OK so far, Fan loud AF - This switch is ok so far. The main function is as expected. The only issue I have with it that brand new out of the box the fan, at its top speed, screams so loud that it overpowers the noise of en entire 40U rack full of equipment. It is ridiculous to say the least. One thing though is that the speed is variable so if the unit is running cool it will be quieter, but as soon as you have some heat, the noise is unbearable. For all of you that would still want to keep it, one thing you can do is to replace the fan on the inside with a Noctua fan that is quiet and efficient in moving the air. Arguably a better solution than the factory, which TP-Link should have implemented to start with. The Noctua NF-A4x20 FLX, Premium Quiet Fan, 3-Pin available on desertcart fit's perfectly as a drop in replacement, 15 mins of effort do it. I will come back and update the review to comment on the switching function and management software once I have more run time with the unit. So far 3 stars is all I can give because of the necessity of modification to a brand new unit.

**Q: Can this switch support rj45 sfp+ modules?**
A: I just configured this switch to uplink to my Cisco 10gb port upstream, as well as a 10GBe port connected to a QNAP storage unit downstream.
-- Cisco uplink is via twinax DAC cable
-- Qnap link is via SFP 10GB copper RJ45 port

This is all working nicely.  Storage access via 10gb link is fast.  Internet access is fast, across the Cisco backbone, and out through the internet router.

**Q: Can it use sfp rj45 10gb modules?  read much indicating fiber only, wanted to verify if sfp rj45 10gb worked.**
A: Yes it can use 10gb rj45 sfp modules. In use, No issues so far.

**Q: What modulars can be used with this switch because I have some axis ones and they aren’t working**
A: Are the axios modules 1-gigabit SFP modules (as opposed to 10G SFP+ modules)?  If so, log into the switch and manually set the port speed for that particular SFP+ port to 1-gigabit.

I ran into this issue when I connected this switch to the uplink SFP port of a 1-gigabit switch.  When I manually set the link speed on this SFP+ to 1-gigabit, that fixed the problem instantly.

If all your modules are 1-gigabit SFP, you may have a chicken-and-egg problem.  (You can’t set the port speed because you can’t get into the switch.). If so, you can use the included RJ45/serial cable and use CLI to configure the switch and set the port speed to get in.  (That’s what I did.)

**Q: Would this require a vpn router?  can you recommend one compatible in size to this 10g switch, if not?  (sfp ports)**
A: No it doesn't require VPN but it's designed be used with the TP-Link Omada system of software or hardware controllers and routers.   Within the Omada system its great.   If you are looking for a stand alone 10gb switch there are other solutions that would be better and cost less.

### ⭐ Working with tech support since I received it.

Out of the box, it has issues with the certificate they installed in it from the factory. It has a Cypher mismatch error, and at first tech support told me I could only use the console cable to configure it. Then I showed them their product web page which clearly indicated web, ssh, telnet, etc. Now they are having me use Firefox and disabling security, which is still not working.
