Vollrath47275 Blue 3 Ounce Cast Aluminum Ice Cream Scoop

I did waaay too much research when purchasing a new ice cream scoop and finally settled on this one. I was pretty surprised that there were no reviews on these truly professional ice cream scoops, so I figured that I would write one. The main reason why I was looking for a new scoop was because the coating on my old one (Oxo) started to pit which sadly seems to be the norm for ice cream scoops. The Vollrath ice cream scoops are solid metal and are really well designed. One thing that surprised me is how short it is. When holding the handle, I can rest my thumb against the scoop. This is not a bad thing because the handle is comfortable and this gives you more leverage when scooping hard ice cream. Speaking of which, this scoop goes through ice cream much better than my old one. The end does not curl up as much, which gives it more power when you push. I have only used it three times so far, but have had no issues with ice cream sticking to it. The scoop is shallow enough that the ice cream just falls out of it. I read that the polished aluminum will turn gray if you put it in the dishwasher, so I plan on just hand-washing it. The 3-ounce size seems a little large for normal household use and I would suggest buying the gold, 2-ounce scoop instead (Vollrath 47277). Overall, this was a great find and a better purchase. I highly recommend this if you want something that will last.

The scoop is a little bit bigger then I was hoping for but works very well!

As far as scooping icecream and not driving you crazy it's amazing. Ice-cream somehow just pops right off the spoon no hassle. I'd give it 5 stars, but unfortunately i cannot... this item is not dish-washer safe, it'll tarnish to a nearly black color which seems impossible to fix/clean off. Albeit my fault for being lazy and not washing it by hand... but still. However, i will buy this again and just not be lazy next time.

Bought for commercial use, after a week in the ice cream well, it is rusting or losing part of its material.
