How long approx. do they hold up in the sun and rain?** A: Yes work well on plastic labels. Used them this summer on my garden labels and at the end of season they were still very legible. **Q: I use botanical names for outdoor plants like orchids. Will this pen print small and fine?** A: It's not a super small point. Like a super fine marker. I use them to write cultivar names on vinyl tags for Japanese Maples. Very good sunlight resistance so far **Q: I have many perinnial gardens in Wi. I need label markers that will last at least a year & not fade because of sun, rain, snow. Will these do that?** A: I've had the hot Texas sun beating down on my label markers for the past 6 months and this marker hasn't faded yet. **Q: Are these water based or oil based?** A: They are not water based. They smell like acetone. They stand up to daily UV exposure and have not faded at all, unlike every other kind of marker I’ve tried. I will use these exclusively from now on. Thrilled with the performance. Last year my tags labeled with another pen faded by mid summer and couldn’t be read by the end of the season. Not this year. I’ve gotten pretty serious about gardening, I have 12 raised beds, 5 Greenstalk towers, and this year I grew 99% of my plants from seed - over 300 plants in total. Having good labels is essential. If you want to re-use the tags, the marker will break down and can be scrubbed off with rubbing alcohol, but it doesn’t come off as easily as other brands and may leave a little ghosting. I try to minimize using plastic in my garden and re-use when I can. Honestly I will probably just rinse the dirt off the labels for things I plan to grow again next year because they still look brand new thanks to this marker. Attaching a photo of what my plant tags look like today as I tear my garden down at the end of the season. Started plants indoors in March, they went out end of May/beginning of June, and I pulled everything down mid-November.
