The inside is more like a regular plush blanket which I like since it's less likely to get matted.One thing I will say it's this might not be the best for hot sleepers. My daughter sleeps on the top bunk so I had to climb up into her bed to make it the first time, and just kneeling *on top* of the blanket my legs got super warm and a little sweaty.
