The other stuff is more "cheese cloth-y"- very gappy and flimsy. It unravels at cut edges or where a thorn snags it. This is higher quality, stays nicer longer. It also seems to be less absorbent which is nice for avoiding mold.It did stink when new, but I've never found a burlap that didn't. I think it's just the way the stuff is made.
