The straps under the chin adjust easily and help to hold the helmet in place. He's small so it is still a little loose but fits much better than the other small helmets I have looked at. The top feels hard and sturdy which makes me feel safe that he would be protected if he fell. There is a good bit of padding on the inside which helps it to stay in place and must also be comfortable for their head because he doesn't complain about it or want to take it off. We mostly use it when we go ride four wheelers so it gets dirty. I just use a baby wipe to clean it off and it works just fine. I also have a 6 year old girl and she has tried it on and it fit her perfectly, just had to adjust the straps around the chin. This is just what I wanted and I am happy with my purchase. I would recommend this product to anyone needing a helmet for their small child.
