My 40 feet hose shrinks to 30 feet when my Hayward Pump is set at Deep Clean. The vacuum negative pressure is so great that it sucks the hose about 10 feet shorter. If you have a variable speed pump, you can set the pump at a lower RPM for less shrinkage...but this will result in less suction/ cleaning power. Make sure you take the shrinkage into consideration before you buy a hose. Otherwise, the hose seems to be of good quality,If you never used a vacuum hose before, attach it to the vacuum head and lower it into the deep end of your pool. Then feed the hose in vertically into the water to get rid of the air in it. Then feed the hose into the hole located in the skimmer that leads to the pump (keep the hose under water at all times). Finally, set the pump to deep clean for maximum suction. (If too much air gets into your pump, the pump will lose its prime) ### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ If it's the right size, this is the hose to buy. *by R***S on Reviewed in the United States on July 5, 2018* First let me remind you the swivel end should hooked to the vacuum head. If you try to hook it to the pump side it will leak and you will loose your vacuum. My previous hose would tend to collapse if there were any tight turns when I turned on my Hayward pump. The does shrink lengthwise when the pump kicks on but I took that into account when I ordered it. I bought the 30' hose for my 18' pool and it gives me plenty of extra to maneuver. As for performance this hose does a great job. It won't try to collapse even on very tight turns. My only complaint about quality is that it does want to curl up a bit instead of laying out straight. On another note, I was surprised when I tried to hookup my Kreepy Krauly to my poolside vacuum intake. This hose is 1.5" I.D. in size BUT both connections are FEMALE! Pardon me for being a homeowner and not a pool professional, but I've only seen hoses that had a male end and a female end. Every hose I've ever had was male/female design. My vacuum intake on the inside of the pool is female - how can I connect this hose to it??? Guess I'll now have to spend more $ at the local pool supply to pick up an adapter (which should have come with the hose). BE CAREFUL WHEN YOU ORDER!!!EDIT OCTOBER 2018: I've had the hose in the pool over a year now and it's working out fine. I notice that the description has been changed to say that it's NOT for automatic pool cleaners (like mine!).
