I used red food coloring in my buttercream, and it completely ruined both the texture and the color. It made my buttercream softer and way too loose, which already made it harder to work with—but the worst part was the color. It didn’t turn red at all. It came out this dull, uneven pink that looked nothing like the deep red I was going for (or what was advertised). It honestly looked washed out and under-pigmented, like I barely added any color even though I used a lot. If you’re trying to get a true, rich red, save yourself the frustration and just get Chefmaster dye.
