While I can work bench press machines at 100lbs+, I am also looking to develop the auxiliary muscles in my shoulders, by working on a bench with dumbbells of much less weight like these. I get two benefits from this: 1. It engages the minor muscles and encourages ligament β€œhealing” to a degree so that I can lift in better form. 2. It lets me start the lift from a lower point that stretches the joint more. The effort with the machines starts from a higher point. This is like taking the bottom position of a push-up loser to the ground.
