Review: Smooth Writing Vintage Elegance - Let's be honest - the Parker Duofold Centennial Chevron Blue fountain pen is gorgeous. The intricate 18k gold nib with its two-tone design and the engraved ace of spades is wonderfully detailed, as is the rest of the pen. The blue chevron design on the barrel and cap is a deep shade of blue that goes perfectly with the gold trim on the end cap, band at the bottom of the cap, signature Parker arrow clip and finial, where the ace of spades design makes another appearance. The overall look is vintage elegance, and it's a show-stopper. The Duofold Chevron Blue has some heft, but I don't find it too heavy in my hand. Posting the cap makes the pen top-heavy to me. So, I write with it unposted and find it well-balanced. I purchased the pen with a fine nib, and find that it is a very smooth writer on just about any kind of paper. The nib is fairly stiff, as a Duofold is designed to be, so I don't get much line variation, but I do get some. Even the fine nib lays down plenty of ink, and I don't have any problems with skipping or hard starts. The Parker Duofold uses a cartridge/converter set-up for ink, and I generally use the converter to maximize my ink selection options. Sadly, Parker uses a proprietary cartridge design, and standard international cartridges won't fit. I find it easy to fill the converter, though, and I haven't had any problems with leaking or ink flow into the feed. The Parker Duofold Centennial Chevron Blue is one of my favorite pens in my growing collection. It's beautiful and a great writer. It's not inexpensive, but I think it provides great value for the money versus some of the higher-end fountain pen brands. I fully expect to enjoy using it for the rest of my life.
Review: Pricey, but you're not just buying a name. The pen is awesome. - Let me start by saying this is a great fine point pen. The listing though is a bit confusing. To clarify; you get one pen, with one ink cartridge. You put the included ink cartridge in the pen and you have one working pen. There is no second refill, and it is not just a refill either. It’s one complete working pen and a box. Why so pricey? 2 reasons: 1) It’s a Parker, that’s like asking why Prada purses are so expensive. 2) The pen is fantastic quality. The trim is not just yellow colored foil, it is gold; and the pen is quality. The point lets you write even if the pen is held at a 25 degree angle, as in almost lying flat. I also used it upside down and wrote till I got bored, with the point straight up in the air, and the ink did not stop flowing. If it’s in your budget, and you want a very nice pen, this is the pen for you. You’re not just paying for a name. You’re buying a hand assembled gold trimmed, precision writing instrument.

## Questions & Answers

**Q: How much does the pen itself weigh? Below, it says 12.3 ounces? Is that the pen alone or with the box?**
A: The pen alone can't weigh more than a couple of ounces. Very light.

**Q: Why are people paying nearly 600$ for a pen?**
A: Hello curious pen buyer, Parker is a worldwide brand and the Parker Centennial Duofold Fountain Pen is their flagship pen. Meaning it is the premier product of the brand. Just like the F-150 is the premier product for Ford. It has a large 18 carat gold nib that comes in a variety of sizes like fine, medium and broad. It's a very large and heavy pen. When you see it in person it looks very expensive and elegant. It's a high quality product with a very recognizable brand name. It is not worth $600 US Dollars. I know I bought mine for about $400 US Dollars brand new from a reasonable seller. I think he regrets it because he doubled the price several months later. Whenever you buy a pen it is up to you to decide what price you are comfortable paying. I know some people who think paying $20 US Dollars for a fountain is crazy. I also think it's crazy to spend over $50,000 for a F-150 truck when you can buy a brand new SUV for half that price but the F-150 is the number one selling vehicle in America. So you can also say that the Parker Centennial Duofold is a status symbol as well. Just remember, when buying anything that is extravagant, is it worth it to spend that kind of money on a status symbol? Good luck on your pen adventures.....zaga zaga!!

**Q: On the blue chevron version what is the barrel made of?**
A: Hi, this is Ivana from Parker Consumer Care. Thank you for contacting us regarding our PARKER Duofold Centennial Fountain Pen. Please be advised that the barrel material is made from precious resin.

**Q: I like to sometimes sit on a rock and write poetry. It can get blustery. Will the Duo work perfectly?**
A: Using a fountain pen is a mater of comfort and loving the feeing of the nib moves smoothly on the paper. Writing with a fountain pen is usually slower then with other writing equipment since it more like painting the letters then just script it. When choosing a fountain pen you have to find the pen that fit your writing habits you have to find a nib that is soft or stiff according the way you writing, choose the nib width fine board or in between, choose the weight that you are comfort with and the pen diameter. After you will get use to a certain fountain pen you will be able to answer your question by yourself. I use fountain pens for more then forty years, use it at any condition.

I’ve owned three MontBlanc pens and I feel this to be far superior. Beautiful, weighted , well balanced and smooth ink flow. Wonderful materials in its construction. Twice the pen for half the price. Buy it. You won’t be disappointed!
