The string does make a noise when pulled back (I think some other buyers thought they were hearing a cracking sound) but it’s definitely the string rubbing against the wood. I’m not a hunter, so I don’t care about the noise. The string itself seems like it’s very good quality and has a wonderful twang to it. (Update: I rubbed some plain beeswax into the string loops and it no longer makes a noise when drawing back. Going beyond this be difficult. The lower length (28") is what the draw weight is measured at. This is pretty standard for horse bows. If your draw length is higher, it'll stack (rapidly increase in draw weight), and if it's shorter, you won't hit the measured draw weight.
