## Description

LOCTITE 518 Gasket Maker is a single component, medium strength, anaerobic sealant which cures when confined in the absence of air between close-fitting metal surfaces and provides resistance to low pressures immediately after assembly of flanges. The thixotropic nature of LOCTITE 518 reduces the migration of liquid product after application to the substrate.LOCTITE 518 Provides Robust Curing Performance. It not only works on active metals (e.g., mild steel) but also on passive substrates such as aluminum with a low copper content. The product offers gap performance to 0.25 mm (0.01 in) and contamination tolerance. It cures in the presence of minor surface contaminations from various oils, such as cutting, lubrication, anti-corrosion, and protection fluids and cleaners containing surfactants and corrosion inhibitors.TYPICAL APPLICATIONS include sealing close-fitting joints between rigid metal faces and flanges as a form-in-place gasket, e.g., gearbox and engine casings, etc.LOCTITE automotive aftermarket products are not just OEM-specified, they are also designed by auto manufacturers and lab tested. Review: Good stuff - Best gasket maker in my opinion. Left if for a week because of logistical issues. Did not cure and was able to slap the part on a week later with no issues. Rtv would have dried and had to be re applied
Review: Works without primer down to at least 40F - Used on a 9.9 yamaha outboard. Crankcase cover and coated the base gasket. Sub 60 degrees F above freezing, no primer/activator. I didn't start the engine for 3 days after installing the powerhead. Used a sheet of plastic to lay the base gasket out and glived hands to coat with sealant. Plastic stayed on my table for 2 days and never set up. I smeared this leftover sealant on 2 washers and clamped then together. It set up fine overnight without being open to air at about 40F.
