Determined by viewing from inside of window looking out. Can be used on either awning or louver type windows. Side mount design. Review: Perfect fit - This crank was a perfect fit in my RV window. The install was very straight forward. It works very well. Review: I replaced the operator assembly that was stripped and broken - Quick and easy to install after watching a 15 minute video on YouTube. The video also explained what operator model (left or right) you needed, which helped make sure I did the correct version. The operator I removed from my Hideout has standoffs on the side of it that went against the window assembly to help keep it level... this replacement unit does not have those standoffs, so when I installed it, it feels slightly crooked (I just need to go back and either throw a standoff/washer/something in there so it can't tighten past a certain spot, but have been lazy).
