As you go thicker (to the very thickest) it's less noticeable. Maybe I just got a defective unit. Customer service agreed to send a replacement Mandoline. I'll update when the new device arrives.I did get a replacement Mandoline.. great customer service.. When you push like a potatoes up and down slicing it then it gets down close to the end it's hard to cut. I actually cut two of the little plastic guides of the holder. If they would have a holder that was wider and moved up and down the rails with springs on them so that it goes in and out with the depth of what your slicing to make it safer and quicker. That way you have a guide to go up and down the metal and the holder edges go up and down with the fruit or potatoes or etc height wise and steady it. Can be used for duphinoise potatoes as well as slicing cucumber and other veggies. It comes practically assembled and is easy to use and clean.
