Sharp, decent quality lens for the low price.
Surprising quality for such a "cheap" lens. For extreme wide angle, I've used the Peleng 8mm, Zenitar 16mm, Sigma 10-20, and more recently the Opteka 6.5mm on my Rebel T2i.I purchased this lens specifically for my Sony A7 Full-Frame, even though it's an APSC designated lens. This lens performs easily as good any of the aforementioned budget wide angles, with the added benefit of being a 2.8 aperture, with threads on the end so you can use filters if one is so inclined.Points about the lens:• Focus barrel moves smoothly and has a solid feel - you have to move it with intention, but it' s not stiff.• Aperture ring moves not as nicely as the focus ring, but it's solid. It is NOT indexed, meaning there are no "clicks" indicating you're at an exact aperture.• I'd say the center 2/3 of the lens are pretty sharp, but at the outer third, general distortion from the angle of view sets in pretty harsh and the image almost "smears", and definitely blurs/stretches as it leaves the frame.• Colors are decent saturation (though I shoot RAW+JPG), and I'd say the lens is a little contrasty.• I use the focus-peaking feature in my A7 to aid in focus, lens is impressively sharp. Sharp as the Sigma 10-20mm, with maybe a bit LESS chromatic aberration. It's there, though, but not nearly as bad one would expect for the money.• Comes with a lens cap, a detachable lens hood, it's plastic, as well as the rear lens cap.My only nitpick on this nearly $100 wide angel lens is the lack of consistent sharpness across the entire lens. I imagine a certain number of folks will find issue with the distortion at the edges. I won't put a "ding" against it though given its a nicely built budget lens. If I didn't already have the opteka for my for my Canon, I'd get one of these for it as well.
