I am looking into attaching some kind of flexible plastic strip to extend the shield deeper into the bowl. For us, that would fix the splash-out problem we have with an otherwise wonderfully well-made and sturdy seat. **Q: The opening of the round toilet seat looks small. Is this a problem?** A: The width of the opening in the round Bemis is 8" at the widest point while a standard toilet opening width is 9". The front to back opening of the Bemis is 10", the standard 9 1/2". The differences in dimension are irrelevant. My wife and I are of "average" build and have water closets in use that are standard round and Bemis round, with no problem with the size of either opening.
