I've only ever used one color of each (this purple in crushed velvet and a blue in the normal velvet) so this may not apply to everything. **Q: How similar is this crushed velvet to the baby velvet? I love some of these colors more and I have previously made a baby blanket from the baby yarn.** A: For some reason the crushed velvet is soooooo much softer than just velvet! The color choices are gorgeous, and the Indigo Velvet color was true to the pictures. I had absolutely no knots or joins in either of the huge, generous skeins—each was one continuous strand. I had no shedding either, except a very tiny bit when I had to frog the same section several times (I was taking care of sick kids and kept miscounting stitches). Just to note, I found I could use a smaller hook than the yarn called for as it is so fluffy but not dense. I think 5.5 is what I ended up liking.
