I use both this and rub n buff , depending on the job. No, they are not the same. Gilders wax is a wax and should be applied like a wax: allowed to dry and buffed. It can be manipulated ( to an extent) after application and takes time to dry. Run n buff has wax in it but is more concentrated and must be rubbed in to the required finish as it is applied. I find it more difficult to control than the gilders waxes on absorbent surfaces like wood. One of my current projects is refinishing several antique tole ( metal) light fixtures. I have found that this wax, when applied over paint, can be polished to a remarkable soft glow, which will no doubt greatly enhance the candelabra fixtures once installed. The rub n buff is unbeatable for application on raw ( alcohol cleaned) metal. It cures quickly to an authentic metallic finish. I haven’t tried it on ceramic yet, but would expect a good result. Next week, I plan to use Gilders wax over completely cured ( 4 days to be safe?) rub n buff to get a mottled, antique pewter finish. I love the control and glowing finish I get from gilders wax.
