I found Jamie, like many of you in the review section, from Taylor Welch’s podcast. I was so fascinated with Donna and his testimonies, and the other stories they told about people coming to Christ. I had never heard such incredibly awe-inspiring testimonies! So I started watching more of Jamie’s talks on YouTube and the more I watched, the more I felt like “I have GOT to learn about this identity stuff he’s talking about!” So I buy the kindle book (my first kindle book ever) because I could NOT wait a second more to learn about this identity exchange training. The events that have ensued in my life just in the last week as I’ve been moving through the book and listening to the voice of God are SO AWESOME!!! First, I want to tell you about a short and fun trust-exercise the Lord took me through as I began speaking with Him more. A friend who lives in my neighborhood told me about a trail I could walk to from my house, and I was so excited because I had previously complained about not having any parks or trails near my house (I was wrong!). So the morning of Father’s Day, when my baby and my partner were still asleep, I decide to go check out the trail. I get out there, have a great walk, get eaten by mosquitoes — it’s phenomenal. Then I come out to a neighborhood and assume it must be near my home. As I walk down the street, I start thinking “alright I better pull out my phone and see where I’m at so I can walk back home” because I wasn’t recognizing where I was. That’s when the Lord prompted me. “How about I get you home?” “You’ll get me home, Lord?” I inquired. “Yes.” I put my phone away and decide rely on God’s voice to lead my back to my house. I ask at every turn whether I should go left or right, and he answers each time. Then he leads me out to a Main Street (no longer a neighborhood) and I get doubtful. I stop in my tracks because it doesn’t look like there’s a sidewalk where He wants me to go. I think, “surely Lord, you’re not taking me this way…” He says “not only am I leading you this way, but here’s a lady for you to follow.” I see her cross the street and walk on a sidewalk. I follow her. “How long do you want me to follow her, Lord?” He says “I’ll tell you when.” So she turns right, I ask if I should turn as well. The Lord says no, keep going forward. But remember how I had complained there were no parks nearby?? Well the lady had turned into a PARK and not just any park, a park with WATER SLIDES!! What?!?! So I think to myself “well that’s cool” and keep going. Here’s where it gets interesting. The Lord tells me to cross the street again into a neighborhood that says “no outlet” on the street sign. I doubt again. I even whisper under my breath “but it says no outlet…” How am I going to get home?? This is not my neighborhood. The Lord continues to tell me which way to turn until I reach what seems to be an open field with an undeveloped driveway (probably a house lot that never got built on) and there is a blockade painted red in front of where He wants me to go. Again… I doubt. Even more this time. By now, it was getting hot. The sun was beating down on me. I tell the Lord “I really need to get home and where you’re leading me looks like a dead end.” I’m getting discouraged. The Lord tells me “okay you can check your phone now.” So I do. Based on the maps app directions, it tells me that if I were to walk through the neighborhoods, it would take me 31 min to get home. But I notice that where it seemed like there was a dead end, there’s actually a trail. The Lord asks me “Will you trust me the rest of the way?” I say yes and put my phone away. I get home within 10 minutes, and was brought back to the exact same trailhead I had started from. Wow. AMAZING!!! Now the second story I want to recount to you is how the Lord redeemed my identity. When I did the prayer from the book to hear your identity from Jesus, he told me my identity was “clown” and gave me a vision of a court jester. Well immediately the enemy interjected and I doubted it. See, before I was saved, I was deeply entrenched in the new age and had done all kinds of crazy rituals and practices that are entirely detestable to the Lord. And at one point I had developed the belief that perhaps God was a cosmic jester, and I identified with that also, being someone who has done improv comedy since high school. So on my 25th birthday, I got a tattoo on my forearm that said “cosmic clown” with the image of a jester hat floating above the words. Well here I am now sitting on my couch, 27 years old, a new creation in Christ… and he’s telling me I’m a clown…? I look down at the tattoo and ask “Lord, what do you want me to know about this tattoo?” The only reason I doubted it was because after I left the new age, I can renounced all of it, including my tattoos. The Lord told me plainly, “a demon convinced you to get that tattoo to steal your identity, but I got it back for you.” I was satisfied with that answer, so I continued to ask the Lord “what do you want me to do relating to my identity?” He told me a couple of things, the first being to check out books on clowns at the library. I hadn’t checked out a book from the library in years and wasn’t even sure I could, but nonetheless I checked online for books about clowns at my nearest library. Most of the search results turned up horror books and movies, but one stood out like it was made for me. “The Clown of God” by Tomie DePaola. A children’s book that portrays an Italian medieval traveling clown redeemed by God in a Catholic Church. And there was a copy available at the library 6 minutes from my home. I went to the library and was able to get my library card updated and check out the book without a problem. The second thing the Lord told me was to go to my favorite comedy theater in town where I’ve watched and performed in plenty of shows in the past. I went online to see what shows were playing over the next few days, only to find out that in two days there was a show called “Clown Night!” I was astounded. Of course I went and had a blast. And the journey continues! I don’t know where this will lead me but Jamie’s book has completely changed my life. I never knew this kind of relationship was possible with Jesus, and I’m beyond grateful and excited for the future. Thank you so much Jamie and Donna for your work in this field!!!! It's engaging, well written and thought provoking. It will help people (saved and not yet saved) learn how to communicate with God-how to ask Him the right questions, how to hear His reply and how to keep the conversation going. It helps readers see themselves as God sees them. It opens readers up to the truth.
