If you are working in low light or have low vision, it may be helpful to tack a contrasting color in the center. A sharpie might work, though caution is needed. Solutions that include an alcohol component may make the "permanent" marker run, and some floors will accept that stain (marble, unsealed vinyl, painted floors, concrete, etc). Reds dyes also tend to be unstable, so I would advise professionally dyed black thread, twine or ribbon, after testing it with your cleaning and polishing solutions.
