Review: Incredible second novel in the series - These books (GIRL FROM EVERYWHERE and THE SHIP BEYOND TIME) are incredible. If you don’t want to read this whole review stop here and just go buy the books. You will not be disappointed. I read each book in two days (and I’m insanely busy and have zero free time…yet somehow this was possible. I simply couldn’t stop reading). I’m not going to describe the plot here, the summary above does a great job of doing that. Instead I’ll talk about why I loved these books. I was hooked immediately by Nix’s voice. This voice grabs you from the first page. Voice is one of those things that’s hard to describe, but for me, this voice is like listening to an old friend. One you wish you got to hang out with more and you just want to spend time with. This is how I’ve felt about series like THE GRISHA TRILOGY, RED QUEEN, A COURT OF THORNS AND ROSES and THE LUANAR CHRONICLES. The world is completely immersive and you won’t want it to end. Nix is a great character. She’s smart, tough, vulnerable and kind all at once. You feel her plight and her longing. Her relationships with the other characters, especially with her father, is nuanced and complex. With her father, it’s not the stereotypical teenage angst we often see in young adult novels. It’s unique. Nix also has a relationship with a boy, Kashmir that grabs you by the heartstrings and doesn’t let go. We slowly fall in love with Kashmir as the story unfolds, which makes it feel real and sticks with you after the last page. This is all fine and good, you might say, but what about the plot? Does the plot keep the story moving? The answer is a resounding yes. This story is brilliantly told (I won’t spoil the plot by describing it here though!). Time travel stories are so interesting to me because they are all different. They all have a different method of travel, a different set of rules and complications. The method Heidi devised for her novels is so unique yet so easy to get on board with. Maps that become reality based on the beliefs of the navigator and the mapmaker? I love it. The characters transport themselves to the most unusual places as well as the most common, and watching them fit in in either is so much fun. 2016 NY, ancient China, mythological and real places, they are all delivered with such (not boring) detail that you wonder if Heidi was actually in all of them—and more importantly you feel like you’ve gone there yourself. Also, she weaves in just the right amount of mind-bending time hopping, where characters meet each other in non-linear timelines so you have to stop and get your head around it. Still, she manages to describe it in such a way that it’s never confusing. Just complicated, which is the perfect balance. I’m going to post this review under both because it applies to both GIRL FROM EVERYWHERE and THE SHIP BEYOND TIME. I’d recommend reading them in order, though I suppose you could start with the second…but I can’t imagine why on earth you’d want to skip the first.
Review: Sailing Through Time - This sequel to THE GIRL FROM EVERYWHERE was very good. The characters Ms. Heilig has created are people I enjoy spending time with, especially Nix and Kash. Their romance isn't overdone, with the main focus of the book being on Nix trying to solve a series of problems by traveling through time on a ship. The main problem in this book is whether or not she can save Kash, the love of her life. Ms. Heilig's writing is excellent, and at times brilliant. She occasionally overdoes the similes and metaphors, and can overwrite a sequence making it go on far too long, but for the most part her writing is spot on. The world she has created is also a lot of fun, although a tad complicated. This is not a book for lazy readers. If you're looking for a nice, easy, popcorn series of books, these aren't for you. You have to think, pay attention, remember--and all of the popping back and forth through time can be discombobulating. Indeed, one of the things I like about this series is that Ms. Heilig doesn't spoon feed you. She makes you work it out for yourself, which, in the end, keeps you engaged. My only serious complaint? The typos. I have never, ever seen this many typos, especially in a book produced by a major publisher. Whoever proofed both books, but especially this one, needs to do something else for a living. Bottom line: If you love adventure, time travel, great characters and stories, and unique storytelling, pick up a copy of both THE GIRL FROM EVERYWHERE and THE SHIP BEYOND TIME, and read them back-to-back. You won't be disappointed.

### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Ship Ahoy
*by C***S on April 7, 2017*

I honestly don’t know where to begin or how to start this review, just know that The Ship Beyond Time is another five star read. Yes, Heidi “She did that” Heilig has done it again with this stunning swoony sequel. I mean my edges are snatched. The Ship Beyond Time is just as captivating and adventurous as the first. This time around Nix is at the helm of the Temptation trying desperately to change her fate as she learns that her best friend and the she’s grown to love might be lost to her forever. Seriously, the first 5 chapters alone will have you hooked, line and sinker. With mind-blowing world building get ready to set sail on an adventure of a lifetime. Meet new characters and fall back in love with the crew of the Temptation, while getting all the feels from the epic swooniness that we all crave. For all the Kashmir lovers out there, the author has dedicated a few chapters to this lovely and poetic swoony dream. I just absolutely loved reading from Kash’s point of view. It’s downright criminal how devastatingly handsome Kash. Definitely a top 5 book boyfriend material. So here’s hoping to more Kashmir in the coming future. Here’s to putting that out in the universe. Please make it happen lol Beyond that, read how Heidi weaves together fantasy, history and folklore so seamlessly—become entranced by this breathtaking story. A story full of heart. A story filled with a diverse cast of characters. Each one more complex than the next. I seriously, can’t recommend this book enough. I hope everyone pre-ordered and demand their libraries carry this book because you will not be disappointed. The Girl From Everywhere and The Ship Beyond Time are two book that everyone needs in their lives. P.S. I know this can’t be the end of this series. Not with that ending. *Originally posted on creatyvebooks(dot)com ** Received an advanced copy via Edelweiss in exchange for an honest review.
