I normally use a size 3 grommet but my normal supplier ran out and I tried these in hopes that they would work for me. I use a Stimpson grommet press and ordered a new set of dies, size 2, to use with these grommets. While they did work with my press, the grommets were a little too big to stay on the top die so I would have to hold them in place until I clinched them together. I ran 3,000 of these and only had a few instances where the washer slid out of place and was cut in half by the grommet. I also tried the size 2 grommets by Yescom. They are the same quality as these, but a touch smaller so they fit on my press. Then push the grommet through and crimp. Especially on vinyl or cloth like papers. **Q: Do you have stainless steel or rust proof grommets?** A: The items I bought appear to be brass. So far, the ones I have instralled are not rusted. It seems these are the same material that comes in the Bostich grommet kit at lowes or HD; maybe a little thinner in material. I would"nt repair critical mountain climbing gear with them, but they work around the house. **Q: What is the barrel length of these grommets?** A: I don't know what the barrel length is, but I know they are the right grommet size to repair tarps, tents and flags. I have also not had any problems with them fitting or crimping using my Bostitch Grommet tool kit. I have been able to install new/additional grommets into material that previously had none. If you have used grommets in the past for repair, these are the same size. The ring hole may be different, but no big deal. **Q: what is the max thickness of sign material these will work with?** A: I would say that depends on the length of the "barrel" part of the crimping tool that is in your kit.
