Long hardwood boards tend to "flap" at highway speeds. Straps using this strapping will hold the boards tightly together. I have some nylon straps with metal ratchets that I have used to this point. I always worry that the metal ratchet might hit the paint or break the windshield. That worry will never come to fruition with these straps. I will be using 3" overlaps to secure the ends of the boards together. If you insert the buckle you can take the two ends and loop them around the buckle then fold them back against each other so the at the buckle is between the two looped ends. If you pull it tight and have a sufficient length of velcro on velcro it should be pretty secure. So one end of the velcro strip is put through the metal buckle and folded back to join with that same end. The other end of the strip is put through the other side of the metal buckle and folded back to join with that same end.
