I would say it's a medium size compared to other whistles i've had. It is also plenty loud and should work great got any use. The lanyard is thick enough to handle the weight of the whistle plus some It is not a breakaway style but it was'nt advertised as such. I thougt it ws a pretty good deal and I would buy another wne if I need another whistle in the future. The only draw back is that the little compass detached from the side of the whistlle, I contacted the sellee via e-mail and they were very halpful. They gave me a couple of salutions to the problem and also offeered to replace them.
