Bought two of these to replace florescent lamps. The florescent lamps were in a cold area and would dim over a short time period and were constantly burning out.. I tried the led tubes that plug into your old florescent ballast first and they did not work. Returned them and bought these instead. These come with their own transformer so you disconnect / bypass the old ballast in the fixture and use their transformer instead. The led bulbs are bright and clean light They are a bit expensive but worth it my opinion. ### ⭐⭐⭐ I'm "off the grid" with a pretty minimal solar power system *by X***4 on Reviewed in the United States on November 24, 2014* I purchased a 12" and 8" Amatron LED Circline (on Nov 4, 2014 for a total of $189.48 including shipping) as a retrofit for an existing fluorescent fixture. I then received a letter from Joan Carucci of Amati International, LLC asking that I review these bulbs. So here goes.First, I'm "off the grid" with a pretty minimal solar power system. Every watt counts, especially in the winter. That's the only way I could justify the exorbitant price of these bulbs. Also, I use an inverter (to convert battery DC voltage to household AC voltage) which only "wakes up" if it senses a load. More on this later.On the plus side, the Amatron LED bulbs are much brighter than the original fluorescent bulbs, so much so that the 12" LED bulb alone would have sufficed to replace both fluorescent bulbs. They're also more efficient: I measured the current draw at about 300 mA total for both bulbs at 120V AC, which works out to about 36 watts. I think the original fluorescent bulbs drew over 50 watts according to their specs (but don't quote me on this).The original fluorescent bulbs "wore out" every few years. They still worked, but they would become very slow to come on in cold weather and often had to be switched on and off multiple times before they'd come on. This was another reason for my decision to upgrade to LED. I was a little disappointed to find that the Amatron LED bulbs don't come on instantly, like the LED bulbs I've used before. It takes about a half second for the 12" bulb to turn on and about a second for the 8" bulb to turn on. This might be temperature dependent; the temperature was about 65 degrees F when I tried it.The installation was straightforward, although the instructions were a little confusing with respect to the DC connections. There's nothing in the written instructions about the DC connections, but if you look closely at the second picture in the "WAY 1: Single LED in one fixture" series it does show them. I didn't notice this and called Amatron customer support; the support representative was excellent. Also, the power supply for the 8" bulb had brown and blue wires for the AC connections instead of black and white as described in the instructions. They were identified on the power supply itself (brown is live, blue is neutral), but the power supply came with a sticker on it that concealed the text.I like the concept of having the power supplies separate from the bulbs. I'm told LED bulbs will typically outlive their power supply, so it should (in theory) be possible to replace the power supplies without replacing the bulbs. The power supplies that came with the bulbs, however, aren't very impressive (slow to turn on). And it would be nice if Amatron sold a single power supply capable of driving both bulbs. This would make the installation easier and would probably be more efficient.Neither of these bulbs by itself is enough to "wake up" my inverter, even at the lowest search setting of 16 watts. I think this has to do with the power supplies; once the bulb comes on, it draws enough to keep the inverter from going back to sleep (but only at the lowest inverter search setting of 16 watts). If the inverter is asleep when I turn the bulb on, however, the initial power draw of the power supply isn't enough to wake the inverter up. So even though the 12" bulb alone provides plenty of light, I ended up using both bulbs to accommodate my inverter's search mode.Overall, I think it's pretty hard to justify the price of these bulbs, but in terms of the light they produce and the power they consume they are superior to the original fluorescent bulbs. ### ⭐⭐⭐ Delay turning on. Otherwise, nice color temperature and a generous amount of lumens *by A***R on Reviewed in the United States on August 30, 2014* It's advertised as "instant on", but we're experiencing a 1-2 second delay with it switching on. Rather than getting used to it, we found that it's an ongoing annoyance. I've contacted the seller to see if there is a remedy. Nice color temperature and a generous amount of lumens, so if it weren't for the lag in switching on, I would rate the bulb as 5 stars.Note: the ballast that came with mine looks different (narrower and black)than the one in the Amazon photograph here. The writing on the ballast says it was made in China by "Yiguang Tech". Also, I do not see either a UL Listed or UL Classified marking on the ballast that I received. When I measured it with a Fluke DMM, it seems to output 26VDC when connected to the Amatron circline bulb.
