Crossing a distance of almost 6600 nautical miles, or a 16 hour round trip flown by Avro Vulcans with the help of 11 Victor bombers per Vulcan to refuel during the journey from Ascension Island. Operation Black Buck's mission was to bomb Port Stanley Airport Runway to weaken Argentina's forces currently occupying the Falkland Islands and make it inaccessible for fast fighter jets to take off. Black Buck 6 destroyed a skyquard fire-control radar, killing four radar operators. Since the refuelling probe ended up broken, Pilot McDougall sent out a "Mayday" signal and was grounded in Brazil with barely any fuel left.
