A: You should choose Sand Blasting Media according to your need, 80 grit for hardware, machining, sand blasting, 100 grit and 120 grit are used for precision casting, medical instruments and so on. The larger the grit, the smaller the bead, the better the polishing. You can start with 80 grit aluminum oxide powder and finish with 120 grit. Start with the rough and end with the fine. I bought this to put in pincushions for sharpening. I had tried a finer grit (120), but it was a little too fine and left a "dust" when you pushed in pins, I even did it in a separate pouch so that there were 2 layers of fabric. So I went down a little to 100 grit. this size does perfect no residue dust on anything. I am still doing 2 layers but it works great and those needles and pins come out smooth and sharp! Granted this size is a bit much for your everyday use, but for me I make a lot of pin cushions and this is just a bonus!
