It makes a great sandwich, toast with butter or cheese toast. My husband even likes it with peanut butter on it. It is filling and keeps you satisfied for a long time, in addition to you getting all the many health benefits of pumpernickel. We are on our 3rd or 4th order of this bread. It also truly stays good on your shelf for a long period of time. It is dense and heavy, so it's not like typical sandwich bread. If you only like fluffier, airy bread, then you may not like this. For it's perfect. We love hearty grainy bread and we love sourdough. This is a combination of both.
