The picture is of a 1/2" mild steel tube with a 1/16" wall -- the kind of general-purpose metal you can buy at Ace or Home Depot. It bent fairly easily, with some serious force but not at the hernia level, and no kinking or flattening or deforming. Exactly what I was looking for. This will be a great tool for making up welded-steel frames, brackets, luggage racks, etc. Happy camper.

No comparison to the pliers. The bends are beautiful. It is a bit unwieldy and tends to flop all around, but it is a side effect of the tool design. The design works to give you very nice looking bends. It took a bit to learn how to get the tubing into the hook. It won't go straight in, you have to angle it a certain way. I was using steel 3/8 tubing for a transmission cooler I was adding to my truck. I'd say it came out pretty nice. Highly recommend.

Used this to make a series of bends for 3/8" 0.035 wall stainless tubing. It worked great. Never had to do a 90 or 180 bend but i'm sure it would be easy to do.
