You should buy the original sealer and do your 3-4 build coats depending on the hardness of the wood, sanding with fine grit sand paper between coats being careful to use a tack cloth to remove dust from the surface after sanding. If you are trying to use this for a veneer vanity it may be overkill. A simple water based polyurethane sealer should do the trick. It'll dry a lot quicker and is a cheaper option for a veneer if you want to seal a veneer vanity. Plus it depends on what type of veneer you are using. Different veneers absorb at different rates too. The water based polyurethane should do the trick. The butcher block from ikea definitely use Waterloo sealer and then the finish for the last coat **Q: can you apply waterlox on butcher block after you have applied walnut oil once?** A: I used it after applying mineral oil to my butcher block countertop, and it worked just fine. I let the oil penetrate for about 30 minutes, wiped off the excess, and applied the waterlox the next day. **Q: Does this product add color or should I stain my butcherbock first?** A: It adds color and seals. My use was a small kitchen project and phenolic resin is more water resistant than acrylics that I've had experience with. Also won't cloud when exposed to soap like acrylics. Goes on thick but starts to set up within 15 minutes. The newer version only comes in a gloss - they call it medium but enough of a gloss that will hide wood grain with reflection. I will be using this product again.
