If you pour aome salt in it and set your charcoal on the salt it keeps it cleaner Review: Cracked During Use - Extremely dangerous! Not sure if it's the manufacturing of the clay or whether or not the clay can withstand a normal charcoal resin disk burning in the center for the whole duration of the burn. I bought this in August, it came in a nice blue hue -- photo of the product shows it being earthen brown colored. No biggie in my books. I used it seldom, maybe once every two weeks. Today, I used it and the burner made a "snap" sound halfway through the burn. The heat of the resin charcoal caused a crack. As this is my first burner for this kind of incense, I'm kind of shocked to see this to happen as this could have broken all the way and leave boiling resin and a hot charcoal on whatever surface you had put the burner on. I'll try to find something I am not going to worry that it'll crack during use! If you do plan on getting this, use at your own risk, put it on a surface where if it does decide to do what mine does, the hot charcoal is contained and not start a fire. I t is so much better than an abalone shell.The handle stays relatively cool so you can carry it around the area to be cleansed without burning your hand. I gave it four stars instead of five because the glaze is slippery and the burning charcoal slides around in the bowl if you move it too fast. If it were made of rough terra cotta it would be perfect.
