Review: Works great! - Be sure to put it where there's no wind or blowing foliage.
Review: Use on boat as added nightly security while on vacation - Purchased for extra security on boat while on vacation to alert me of anyone motion that could possibly be someone trying to steal my boat or equipment at the helm. Have heard too many stories of boats being taken from docks while people on are on vacation. So after purchasing a new boat and wanting to sleep better at night (for 2 weeks vaca in the FL Keys) while boat sits at dock behind rented home. So I decided to give this a try, as you just never know, and I like to lean on side of caution. Lots of boats getting taken from Bahamas recently and running to FL coast, So I wanted to test something out. Boat was docked roughly 150ft from where receiver was plugged in the house. Every night after we'd return from our night out on the water after cleaning up the boat, I would put this motion alarm on the console facing the helm. I didn't to secure it to anything I just rested it on the console, then plugged receiver into outlet in the Master bedroom we were sleeping in. To test it, I called wife from the boat once it was in place so she could hear that it receiver worked and the distance wasn't an issue (again roughly 150ft away from bedroom). As soon as I backed off the boat and walked back on to the helm, the receiver alerted her. Sure, we locked things up, we take the keys in with us every night, but when someone wants to take a boat they can do so without the keys, but they will need to get on and stand at the helm to drive. I also added a portable motion light each night that wraps on to the console T-top that lite up for more motion, so If I did get an alert I could walk out back, turn lights on in the house and look off the back balcony and see if someone was standing on my boat. Hopefully they'd just take off and no harm and I could call authorities, or If they did get things running and able to get moving, I would be on the line with authorities and they wouldn't get far. All that said, I did use it for other than home use, It worked for me. I am in now way endorsing this as a fool proof security system for your vessel, but it did what I needed for peace of mind each night. There are toons of other really expensive boat security systems, items that are out there specifically for boats.. But I figured heck why not give something like this a shot and for the price......it did the job. I will say I tested it every night once in place to ensure it worked with receiver and that the batteries were not dying or as it did get rain or just got damp from humidity overnight that wasn't stopping it from connecting and it had no issues. It is intended for outside, so I didn't think it would, but just wanted to be safe, NO issues. So that part is in your hands. Great example was a few nights my nephew and son were out behind the house fishing at the dock late and jumped on the boat to get some gear or to more conveniently pull in a fish they caught, and it alerted me from the receiver that someone walked by the helm, it was them, but that assured me just that much more it worked. Also, another note you could get alerted from other things, like birds, or if another boat goes by and maybe rocks your boat it could create enough motion and go off. But we did not have any issues of such, but just keep that in mind, guess that depends on where you, where you place it, but all possible. For now, I've pulled all batteries out and it sits in the boat box with the rest of the boat equipment I take on the next Keys trip, and I will do the same thing each trip from now on. I will try to get some pictures put up soon. If the company that makes made a suction cup style piece that you could use to secure it to maybe a console windshield, or any window/glass that might be helpful for boaters and/or others, instead of having to stick or screw a mount.. Just an idea.

### ⭐⭐⭐⭐ Many Fewer False Alarms. Be Sure to Use the Correct Batteries Outdoors.
*by C***C on December 9, 2025*

This is close to perfect for an IR motion alarm, and produces many fewer false alarms than other IR alarms I have owned. This is because this alarm has a radar chip as well as IR sensing, and both the radar and IR must be triggered for the alarm to sound. I confirmed the radar function by disassembling - the unit does indeed incorporate a 5.8 GHz doppler radar chip beside the IR sensor, and I confirmed the fewer false alarms by putting the unit side-by-side with an IR sensing doorbell on the front porch. When large trucks go by it causes vibration of the glass in the door which causes the IR-only chime to sound, but not this IR+radar chime. Also, the sun occasionally shines into the sensor face and makes the IR-only chime sound, but not the IR+radar chime. That’s very nice. I have several IR alarms setup to sound when wildlife comes into our yard. When the chime sounded we’d go to the window or the camera monitor to see a raccoon or a possum or a lynx. It would see any two-legged animals too, especially at night. But the false alarm rate was so bad that we eventually just turned the system off. I tested this unit out throughly because I plan to buy several of them to replace all of the old ones. Battery life is important for these alarms, because if the battery does not last long, then it will be a maintenance nightmare and be kind of useless. Speaking of batteries, for an outdoor application the proper AA batteries are lithium cells, like the Energizer blue ones. Normal alkaline batteries don’t have the temperature range needed to keep working in Summer and Winter temperatures. I measured the current draw and predict that the lithium AA batteries will last between 6 and 8 months. Normal alkaline AA’s will last around 4 months, and less if it gets hot or cold. For you engineers, the unit draws 14 mA for 1 second when triggered, with a delay until the next trigger of about 16 seconds. It draws about 500 uA on average when it just sits untriggered. I spreadsheeted it and surprisingly the number of triggers per day is not a big factor in battery life. This is because the draw from a trigger only lasts 1 second and the unit cannot be retriggered immediately. The current capacity of the energizer AA lithium batteries is 3 Ah. One star off because of the less than robust silicone plugs and the very tiny screws used to hold the case together. One needs to use a good screwdriver to get these out to avoid stripping them - the tiny screwdriver that came with the unit is very poor. Still better than none though I guess, but need to be careful using it - apply sufficient pressure to keep from stripping out the heads. If you lose the silicone plugs you need to seal the screw holes every time with silicone sealant. The manufacturer did provide extra screws, but not extra silicone sealing plugs. Still, for the money, a great value. P.S. I saw one review where the batteries only lasted a month. This could have been one or more of several things - a bad unit that draws too much current, using alkaline batteries in the hot or cold, or just bad batteries. The AA lithium batteries can be purchased for $1.63 each in quantities of 24, or about $6.50 for 4 to power one unit. It may seem a little expensive for such an inexpensive sensor, but the shelf-life of the batteries is years and years, and if you want the alarm to work reliably outside then the lithium batteries are the way to go.
