The bulbs on my T5 fixture are 177 degrees and my 250 watt HPS bulb is 565 degrees so much cooler than those lights. **Q: How high to hang from plants?** A: It depends what you are growing. PAR at 50 cm is around 200, PAR around 20 cm is around 1100. You'll probably want somewhere between 20 and 50 cm from plants. **Q: Will the 150w choice work for bud grow in a tent size 2x2x4 through flower and veg?** A: I’m personally about to get another or a bigger one and I have the 300w. It’s not true Wattage you want true wattage in your grow tent. The. 300w is only close to 120 true w and the 150w is only about 70 true watt. The plants seem to love it so far. Some of the houseplants turned much darker green after a day under the light, and basil has turned dark green after a couple of days.It felt a little warm at first, but doesn't heat up beyond that. I've had it running for several days, and the temperature at the light has only gotten up to 92F at the LED's (78F ambient, so +14F).It uses 78W, and seems to be built well, with a lot of airflow inside between the heatsink and fan. It was packed well with dense foam, inside a secondary box as well, but upon starting it up, the fan was rubbing slightly. I pulled it up towards the fan grating, and it popped into place, so had probably had a little pressure applied to the fan during shipping, but was very easy to fix.The fan is fairly quiet as well, but you can hear it. It's probably as loud as a bubbler, or a small desk fan on low, not something that would bother you.It's very bright, lights up a good area and distance, and the light hitting the plants seems to be pretty close to white vs. a cheaper panel I have looks very purple.It's working great so far, puts out a lot of light. I'll update in the future as the plants progress.Update 2019-06-06Plants are really liking the light, my DWC looks overgrown right now! First of all, I like that it is bright and has decent spread. It is made with Cree COB which is the top quality, although newer and more efficient chips have been made by Cree, this one is so much less costly than those. And I like my lights to be affordable! Still this is a great light at a decent price. To best use of this UFO 150w CREE Cob grow light, you have to balance distance from plant to achieve light spread and penetration. You have to take into account how dense and tall your plant is. Pruning and training are your friends with any indoor light situation. I find that where I have mine now it covers about 18 inches x 18 inches (flowering) quite well. Your situation may be different, depending on what and how you are growing. This is a great alternative at a great price point if you want to get into Quality Made Cob lighting, and don't want to DIY. Depending on your grow space it may be beneficial to buy a few smaller units rather than a big one. I like multiple smaller lights because I can get the light where I need it better instead of a concentrated area. Heat output is not bad for these lights either, but again you will need to plan for it, according to your space etc. It works great for me and my needs. Right now my pepper plants are loving it! It was still on but the light was barely visible. I had it running on an 18 hour cycle. While it worked, the plants thrived! They grew 6-8 inches in those 2 weeks. Can't return it because I tossed the boxes it came in. Oh well, if yours works it is well worth the purchase.EDIT: After writing my original review I was contacted by customer service and they are replacing my light! Talk about quality customer care! I went and ordered 2 of the 300w just because of this.
