The gold really pops the engraving on the dark blued receiver and barrel. Easy to apply and I second the recommendation of another user: wipe the gold off using paper towel which I believe will allow more of the gold to remain in the engraving as compared to using a soft cloth. Can't comment on longevity but I suppose the filler will last longer if you're careful with it. Regardless, it's a beautiful change and the gold is the perfect choice on a dark blued firearm. I want to laser-engrave graphics on Delrin and fill with gold** A: It should work as long as the engrave depressions are deep enough to hold the paintstick. I've used it on shotguns and it is very durable. I recommend wiping excess off with soft towel. **Q: I never received my gold paint engraving pen?** A: recommend contacting amazon customer service. **Q: Will it also fill in wood grain? this is for walnut that's sanded smooth with a thin poly coat, I want to fill an engraving but not the grain.** A: I applied it to a bronze item that was engraved. It did fill the engraving. After a few days of drying, the excess outside of the engraving was wiped with a soft cloth with some naphtha. Had to turn the cloth frequently because the microscopic gold particles would smear where it was not wanted. I suspect if your wood grain is porous at all the metal particles will settle into them and become nearly impossible to remove. Good luck. **Q: How deep does the engraving need to be? I have some 3/4" diameter knobs with small text that is faded. Thanks** A: Not very deep at all. I typically use these to paintfill engraved acrylic. The engraving is very shallow, just roughing up the smooth surface really. You need to take a utility knife or similar blade to cut the dried edge off in order to get to useable paint, then smear it on and wipe it off. Be sure to wipe off immediately with a soft cotton cloth (it may take some elbow grease and frequent changes to a fresh surface of the cloth).
