I'm sure I used some stronger stuff years ago. But I sell a lot of heavy stuff on eBay (solid steel stock) and it is prone to breaking open packages even when packed tightly and taped well with regular packing tape. When that happens the product is separated from the label. HUGE pain. So now I just use this economy strapping tape to completely laminate the entire USPS Priority Mail Flat Rate Box, which I then reinforce with regular shipping tape along all 12 edges. Makes it harder for the customer to open the box, but it never comes apart. And with the price of this tape I can afford to do that, because a single lost package costs me more than a year of this tape. I use it in watercolor painting. You don't want the wet watercolor paper to buckle so you tape it down. I use drafting tape on the paper and then strapping tape to tape the whole thing down.Problem is, this kind of tape became hard to find - but it is perfect. I have been buying at Ace Hardware for twice the price but then found this. It seems to be the same stuff that Ace puts their name on.
