I have all this great sun exposure in the space, but my pets would not be able to help themselves if I put a bunch of plants are within their reach! Still, I couldn’t leave the pets out completely (in the photo you can see a kitty munching some cat grass on the lowest tier). Installation can be a tricky at first, but once the pole is set up and feeling sturdy, the rest is a bit easier. The individual shelves are neither flimsy nor easy to move around, which is actually a good thing. It’s nice that they are adjustable to allow more room for growing plants. When you do need to adjust them: you’ll need to move the plant somewhere temporarily first, then loosen the bolt, turn the shelf up so that it’s parallel to the pole, scoot to desired position, then start tightening while the shelf is still parallel. Once the bolt is partially screwed into both sides of the cylindrical piece, slowly unfold the shelf so it’s perpendicular to the pole and finish tightening the bolt. Phew! The grey shelves also blend nicely against darker walls. We are only human.I put these on the outside of the alcove which is fine. Still gives me enough room to put a small table and more of my other Thanksgiving/Christmas cactuses in there. There are four trays that fit four plants on them and they have an extended bar to put whatever you want on them. I have put chimes instead of hanging plants.
